Peaches & Cream
I’m not really one to wear tees, tanks or whatever with sayings or phrases on them. Even though some of them make me laugh or describe me, like “sleep, coffee & chocolate,” I still don’t buy them. This one, “Peaches & Cream,” I had to buy!
You see … when I was about 3 months old it became my father’s nickname for me. My mom tells me I was laying on their bed and had chapped chubby cheeks and my dad remarked that they looked like round peaches. Just like that a nickname was born. It quickly turned into “Peach” or “Peaches.” He called me that until the day he died, when I was 20 years old. He was really the only one who ever called me that, except now my brother-in-law will do it in a patronizing way. He finds such joy in trying to irritate me and making fun of me, but I’ve numbed to it after all these years. Since I’ve known him forever and he’s basically like an older brother, I forgive him his MANY annoyances.
My point is – there are exceptions to all rules, especially with fashion and personal style. The best part about fashion is to translate styles and trends into something that personifies you! How could I NOT buy this sweatshirt that will remind me of my dad every time I wear it? I can practically hear him saying “hey Peach” as I walked through the door into his den – like it was yesterday. How can it possibly be 24 years ago??!! I may have only known him 20 years, less than half my life, but it’s what he (and my mom) taught me about integrity, love, family and faith that has gotten me through the next 20 plus years. I hope I can impact my children that way. So … I throw a kiss up to the sky tonight for him from his favorite “Peach”… actually, his only “Peach”
